The article addresses the current transformations of the Civil Service for young people promoted by the Italian state. It seeks to understand whether and how the digitalisation processes are changing the forms of civic engagement. The analysis highlights two contrasting trends. At the level of governance of the system, the digital platforms activated have centralized and made procedures more efficient without creating new opportunities for relations and sharing informations between actors...

giovani e visioni dell’avvenire
Year: 2022
The processes of social change that have affected Western societies since the 1980s have profoundly transformed the modern idea of the future, leading to what has been called the “crisis of the future”. As a consequence of these transformations, a renewed interest in the study of the future has given rise to much research on the relationship between young people – who, as projected towards adulthood, must necessarily look ahead in time – and the future...

Year: 2022
The article discusses the interpretative effects of recent archaeological discoveries on the “conventional” ways of social sciences to explain civilization processes and the consequent postulate that economics is a naturalized science. It will be argued that human groups’ existential placement in a vital world is a necessary condition for forming their economic and social structures. The hypothesis of the work is that civilization was articulated through three media between the biological and social nature of men...

La transizione all’età adulta dei minori stranieri non accompagnati in Italia digital La transizione all’età adulta dei minori stranieri
non accompagnati in Italia
Year: 2021
This article presents the main results of a research – commissioned by UNICEF, UNHCR and IOM – on the factors that facilitate or constrain the transition to adulthood of the unaccompanied and separated children. The research has highlighted, first of all, the artificiality of a distinction between “children” (UASC) and “adults” (UASC who turned 18) that does not take due account of the transitional process of becoming adults, the cultural, social and gender differences that affect this process and the vulnerabilities to which this category of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers are exposed to...

Year: 2021
The emergency caused by the Covid-19 pandemic has led the Italian government to run the risk of strengthening the still too-widespread welfare regime that delegates to families the answers to social needs, taking for granted their willingness to do so. Through data from the first wave of a longitudinal research project entitled “The family at the time of Covid-19” (N = 2985), it has been possible to highlight a certain disagreement on the capacity of the government to support families effectively during the most critical period of the pandemic in Italy (March-April 2020), despite entrusting them with several crucial tasks and functions...

Year: 2019
The article analyzes spatial proximity, understood as the dimension of the city that can influence not only the quality of life of individuals, but also the attractiveness and economic competitiveness of urban systems. The great spread of new digital technologies has changed the way of conceptualizing the city and has led sociologists to believe in the elimination of physical proximity constraints, also due to the progressive fragmentation of public space...

Year: 2017
In contemporary Western societies, as Bourdieu had already clearly stated, capital can not be limited to the economic dimension because it embraces other aspects. Likewise, wealth and also poverty do not depend only by the availability of money but involve areas of experience traditionally excluded from economic calculation and financial exchanges. The article shows how, in the manifold universe of sharing economy, some experiences arise and can generate value (and in some cases also economic profits) starting from what today people most need: relationships, recognition of capacity and knowledge not always appreciated by the labor market, re-occupation of the local space, leisure time, safety, creativity. All these aspects are real forms of wealth, which are circulated thanks to the digital platforms studied in the research presented here, and prefigure a future in which the economic logic should include other dimensions traditionally left on the fringes of market exchanges.
